A true incubator for contemporary dance creation in Montreal, Agora de la danse provides a supportive environment for creativity throughout the year, welcoming artists into its spaces for periods ranging from one to several weeks.
In response to the heightened challenges of the pandemic and drawing on its 30 years of experience supporting Quebec choreographers, Agora de la danse created the “Une première fois” program. This initiative, deployed over three consecutive years (2022-2025), specifically targets professional dance artists from Quebec who have never received support or presentation opportunities within its walls.
The program offers each selected artist two weeks of creation residency in the Espace blanc, accompanied by a $5,000 grant. This approach aims to strengthen Agora’s commitment to the artistic community, foster human and artistic encounters, and give voice to the diversity of contemporary practices around the body.
By addressing the urgent need for creation support, this program demonstrates Agora’s commitment to expanding its reach and supporting a new generation of artists in their artistic development.
Since 2022, Agora de la danse is engaged in a project of cross-residencies in dance between Italy and Quebec, initiated by CINARS and NID (New Italian Dance Platform).
This exchange program aims to foster discovery, sharing, and cultural exchanges between dance professionals from Quebec and Italy.
