Since its inception, Agora has established close ties with young audiences by performing in schools and inviting students to attend shows along with their classmates or families. Through our outreach activities, nearly 6,000 elementary and high school students are introduced to contemporary dance every year
Activities eligible for the Ministère de l’Éducation’s Sorties scolaires en milieu culturel program.
School matinees are an opportunity for primary and secondary school groups to discover contemporary dance, interact with artists, and experience the richness of this art form in a stimulating environment.
Miel is a piece inspired by the myth of Gobnait, a healing saint linked to bees and honey, which are symbols of sweetness, community, and natural power. This sensory and phantasmagorical trio invites us to reconnect with your deepest memories, revive forgotten languages, and give voice to the ancestral forces that still live within us.
The rigorous and athletic universe of Hélène Blackburn and Cai Glover
takes on the game of hide-and-seek to highlight what is absent and question what is visible. Appearing and disappearing thanks to striking illusions, the performers recount the poetry of imagination, set to the music of Mikrokosmos by composer Béla Bartók.
Spect’atelier takes students through the process of creating a dance work, with excerpts from a show in development and customized facilitation activities.
In this Spect’atelier for typical and atypical bodies, we explore the mechanisms of “choreographic suspense” in order to address the theme of anxiety among young people in an intriguing and poetic way.
For over two decades, these awards have been appointed annually to the top dance students selected in dance departments or extracurricular dance programs at schools across Quebec (secondary and college levels). By doing this since the early 2000s, Agora de la danse hopes to light a spark, or even better, to nurture a lasting passion for dance among the young generation.
Recipients receive an Agora certificate, a pair of tickets for a series of our season’s shows and are invited to take part in a dance workshop in our studios conducted by a professional artist.
Adapted to specific age levels, each dance workshop includes a warm-up session, improvisation or exploration games and the learning or creation of a mini-choreography.
Available at any time, on demand.
