A hybrid stage work combining dance and reading, Tenir parole is driven by the intimate collaboration between the versatile artist and photographer Angelo Barsetti and the dancer and choreographer Louise Bédard.
Born from an artistic relationship spanning more than three decades, this project celebrates the poetry of movement and words. Alone on stage, Louise moves through a stripped down space, inhabited by a mosaic of texts written by five authors—Denise Desautels, Véronique Côté, Rachel Graton, Louise Bombardier, and Evelyne de la Chenelière—inspired by her world. Each text becomes a letter, a fragment of memory that inspires her dance and transforms the space. Angelo’s voice guides and dialogues with her moving body, constructing a sensitive duet between words, gestures, and its punctuations. A true moving portrait where the intimate meets the universal, Tenir parole is also a tribute to a great artist who this year celebrates the 35th anniversary of her company, Louise Bédard Danse.
With a background in visual arts, Angelo Barsetti first became known in dance and theater as a makeup artist. For over thirty-five years, he has worked with the most important directors and choreographers on the Quebec stage. He also designs costumes and promotional images for many of their shows. He has taught the art of stage makeup to performance students at École nationale de théâtre. Today, he devotes more and more time to photography and painting. Here, he commits… a big leap!
Louise Bédard, a major figure in contemporary dance and an artist in her own right, has been combining her career as a performer with that of a choreographer for over thirty years. Co-founder of Circuit-Est and founder of her company in 1990, she is responsible for numerous works marked by a great sensitivity to movement, space, and non-verbal exchange. Winner of the Jacqueline-Lemieux prize, she is recognized for her stage intensity. For the FIL, she embraces the words of five authors, letting them resonate in the body with the singular finesse that characterizes her art
