Surrounded by a luminous robotics installation, performers from Popmolle experiment and play with the expressive possibilities of limpness and elasticity.
On stage, imposing structures and projected beams of light, sound waves, and lasers continually transform our perception of the space and of the three dancers’ movements. We are invited into several fragmented universes, at times festive, at other times mathematical, meditative, or romantic. This interdisciplinary collaboration brings together mechanical, human, and incandescent bodies as they intertwine and distort in a modern mechanical ballet.
Popmolle is a creation lab made up of five Montreal artists (Liliane Moussa, Simon Laroche, Marine Rixhon, Danny Perreault, Anne-Flore de Rochambeau). Since 2015, the collective has been working to produce performances that integrate dance, digital arts, and robotics. Designed as an exploratory, adaptive, and non-hierarchical collaborative space, the lab encourages interaction, interdependence, and the language of each discipline. Artists push the boundaries of their respective practices to encourage a cross-pollination of forms and the decompartmentalization of artistic creation.
