Mars elle danse
Enter the intimate world of choreographer and performer Soraïda Caron with Les Petits désordres, her first solo work.
The piece, interspersed with short monologues, deals with her dual nationality as an adopted person: Quebecois and Dominican, white and black. It depicts the repercussions, here renamed the small disorders, of her origins on her journey. This autobiographical story immerses us in a quest for identity in order to better understand the complex repercussions of international adoption. A rich and honest work in which the artist sensitively surrenders to the audience.
Founded in 2015, Mars elle danse is a contemporary dance creation and production company based in Trois-Pistoles, Bas-Saint-Laurent. Led by choreographer Soraïda Caron, gestural language is expressed through costumes, accessories, video images, and sculptures to better re-naturalize the body. This research gives rise to proposals often lacking in human character. Mars elle danse questions the singular language that emerges from it.
Having graduated with a bachelor’s degree in contemporary dance from Université du Québec à Montréal, Soraïda returned to settle in Trois-Pistoles in the Bas-Saint-Laurent region. In 2015, she founded the company Mars elle danse, of which she is the executive director, artistic director, and choreographer. Her works are presented in festivals, theatres, and museums throughout Quebec and in Germany. Firmly rooted in her region, Soraïda also offers recurring events, including Au quai, on danse! In 2022, she received the prestigious Prix du CALQ – Artiste de l’année au Bas-Saint-Laurent for her body of work.
