A gripping immersion in which the female body becomes the site of an incessant dialogue, a space of multiplicity and evolution.
With Lame de fond, Milan Gervais offers us a journey into the heart of the invisible forces that inhabit today’s female body. Through a sensitive choreography, she explores the inner tensions, the visceral transformations that run through these bodies, between legacies of the past and new horizons.
”In these times of uncertainty, always artistically fertile, let us recall, in the face of the violence that continues, one thing is obvious: women’s bodies are sacred. Art is still the emissary of this sacralization.” Laure Adler. Le corps des femmes.
Milan has worked as a choreographer in the contemporary dance scene in Montreal since 2009 and as artistic director of Human Playground, which she founded in 2013. Human Playground is a creative organization that offers a place for dialogue, in movement, between bodies, urbanity and society. For 15 years, the body of her works has propelled her onto the contemporary art scene and has been shown in numerous festivals in Quebec, Canada, France, Switzerland and Spain.
Her vision of choreography goes hand in hand with that which is inscribed, embodied and configures our bodies in society. Fascinated by this invisible score that orchestrates the bodies in movement around her, she detects a discreetly concerted and performed dance composing the matrix of a normality. This sensitivity to ordinary bodies coupled with that of the social and environmental issues of our time have been the powerful detonators of her artistic practice.
Driven by the need to engage in direct dialogue with reality and to play on unusual creative terrains, she instinctively inserted her work into the street, public spaces and a multitude of atypical places (parking lots, hotels, churches) offering a choreographic and scenographic anchoring to the subjects she addresses: Auto-Fiction (2009), Intersection (2012), Run (2014), Parking (2017), Inscape (2019), L’autre maintenant (2021). Lame de Fond (2025) is her first creation for the stage in 15 years.
Holding a double bachelor in media communications and contemporary dance, Milan graduated from UQÀM with a DESS in event design and is currently pursuing an interdisciplinary master’s degree at Concordia University.
