Amour, acide et noix
Three nights, a single opportunity. An opportunity to see Daniel Léveillé’s work, created 23 years ago, which has travelled the world … and left an everlasting imprint in its wake.
As an encore, because we must see it again! This work premiered at Agora de la danse in 2001. There are books that leave an indelible impression, music that you can’t get enough of, films that you want to see again and again. The opportunity to witness the recreation of such an enthralling dance piece is a rarity. Four dancing bodies reveal what nestles beneath the strangely opaque skin. Amour, acide et noix speaks of loneliness, but also and above all of the infinite tenderness of touch as a balm against the harshness of life. Daniel Léveillé offers nudity as the only alternative to a reading of the body, for isn’t skin our true costume? After performances in Germany, France, Austria, Italy, Denmark, Slovenia, Croatia, Spain, Mexico, Brazil, etc., Amour, acide et noix is back in Tiohtiá: ke/Montréal with a new distribution.

Renowned Canadian choreographer and teacher Daniel Léveillé occupies an enviable place on the national and international contemporary dance scene. In forty years of practice, he has contributed to the development of choreographic art by creating a body of major works performed by exceptional dancers. Trained with the Groupe Nouvelle Aire, he first worked as an independent choreographer before founding Daniel Léveillé Danse in 1991.
In 2001, his work Amour, acide et noix established his reputation on the international stage, where he also presented La pudeur des icebergs and Crépuscule des océans, the other two pieces in his trilogy Anatomie de l’imperfection. Developing a style based on repetition and short phrases, he imagines impossible choreographic scores to reveal the beauty of being in its imperfection and chooses nudity to eliminate all possible pretence.
In 2018, after 40 years of continuous creation, Daniel Léveillé will step down as artistic director and hand over to Frédérick Gravel.
