Emphasizing intimacy, this choreographic installation for four performers explores the power of the lower body.
The squat—a crouched posture, a demanding physical exercise if ever there was one—becomes an act of resistance. In this deep grounding, bodies rise, supporting one another, engaged in a struggle to elevate themselves and free themselves from the weight of the ground.
Oscillating between strength and surrender, between tension and abandonment, the quartet sketches a subtle world where fragility is transformed into virtue. The body becomes both matter and landscapes traversed by invisible forces.
Kim-Sanh Châu (she/her) is a choreographer-performer, filmmaker, and cultural worker based in Tio’tia:ke Mooniyang / Montréal. Her choreographic work has been presented in numerous cultural venues in Montréal and across Canada, as well as internationally, including festivals in Korea, the Philippines, and Vietnam. From 2018 to 2024, Châu was an associate artist with Equivoc’. In 2024, she founded her own company, MIDLAND, which now produces her artistic work. Châu also serves as the Artistic Director of Studio 303, a creation centre that supports independent dance and performance artists.
