The choreographer and actress Estelle Clareton has never wanted to choose between dance and theatre, which led her quite naturally to pair two dancers with two actors in her new dance piece. S’amouracher (FURIES, Iota 9/24) is another turn on the ever-spinning wheel of desire and the quest for love – from the enchantment of initial encounter to the final (sometimes brutal) separation, from passion to dissolution. Fired by the unfailing commitment of the performers, this very physical dance is spurred forward by eager, yearning hands and mouths. Propelled by an energy that matches the searing intensity of their feelings, the quartet embodies the raging fury of passion. In the interest of precision and accuracy, the choreographer at times keeps a distance from her subject, a specialist practising open heart surgery.
