MAQAHATINE POWWOW

Keeping our winter fires burning.

This powwow is hosted by MAQAHATINE (which means “Let’s gather altogether” in Wolastoqey). MAQAHATINE is meant to be a place of sharing and education; education that comes from the community itself. Created in Jan 2020, MAQAHATINE is a collective that was created as a response to the lack of opportunities for Indigenous Peoples in Tio’tia:ke to gather and dance in the wintertime, be able to learn from each other and get inspired by one another. MAQAHATINE is happy to host and welcome all to their first powwow.

” Join us as we celebrate our many Indigenous cultures, through our songs, dances, and beautiful art. Powwows are a powerful gathering where multiple communities and generations of people come together to witness the pride of Indigenous people. OPEN TO ALL, come and discover one way we celebrate together, share our knowledge, and keep our cultures alive. ”

The MAQAHATINE collective, Agora de la danse and Tangente would like to salute the memory of Pierre Baribeau (1950-2020) for his financial support for this project. We also thank the Canada Council for the Arts for its support.
