Montréal – Marrakech

In a lively quartet full of striking contrasts, Danièle Desnoyers and Taoufiq Izeddiou, a major figure in Moroccan dance, confront their writings to create a new one that bears witness to their encounter.

Montréal-Marrakech stands out above all for the strength of its hybrid vocabulary. Conceived as a rendezvous with no fixed territory, the choreographic score is embodied by four performers, two women and two men, from different backgrounds and cultures—Myriam Arseneault Campbell and Abe Simon Mijnheer on the Montreal side, and Chourouk El Mahati and Moad Haddadi on the Marrakech side. Presented at the Montpellier Danse Festival in 2023, this double-headed creation gives free rein to the communion between the different performers in an unclassifiable proposition, underpinned by questions that are both artistic and political. The musicality of the bodies is intensified, their dialogue uncompromising.
