Les Archipels
The past stomps its feet, and the present resonates.
Les murs résonnent is a choreographic work for a chorus of eight performers that draws on Québec step dancing and folk traditions, propelling them firmly into the present. There is no frozen nostalgia here: tradition circulates, transforms, and continually reinvents itself.
Through a collective exploration of movement, breath, and voice, the piece unleashes an embodied memory. Bodies strike, vibrate, and respond to one another, becoming both archives and instruments. Raw and deeply rooted, the movement vocabulary generates a rich rhythmic score that still carries the echoes of gatherings from another time.
Les Archipels was founded in Montreal in 2019 by two choreographers whose artistic roots are in Québec traditional dance. Together, they have developed a contemporary practice grounded in Québec step dancing and folk traditions. Since its inception, the company has enjoyed sustained touring and presentation opportunities in Québec and internationally, with works presented in a wide range of stage and site-specific contexts. It also develops film projects and actively pursues artistic collaborations across disciplines. Its artistic approach is distinguished by an ongoing exploration of rhythm, the body, and memory. Its most recent creation, Les murs résonnent, marks an important milestone in the company’s artistic journey.
