Kìzis is the creator and composer of Down That Trail in the Woods. A Montreal-based interdisciplinary artist, he works across music, theatre, and choreography.
In 2009, he co-founded the experimental ensemble Archery Guild, a large, rotating collective that reached a milestone with the album DIN, involving over forty performers and establishing itself as a reference in Montreal’s independent music scene.
From his solo piece Branches (2015), exploring interior landscapes, to Tidibàbide / Turn (2021), a 36-track project with more than fifty collaborators across multiple cities combining orchestral performance, electronic music, song, and spoken word, and including his opera Wàsakozi (2019) at MAI Montréal arts interculturels, Kìzis continuously sharpens and deepens his artistic research.
Identity remains central to his creative process. For Kìzis, each individual contains multiple characters and voices which form the self. Down That Trail in the Woods continues this exploration of the self’s multitudes and their interactions. This musical, whose genesis dates back to his childhood, reveals a mythological universe rooted in emotional logic and fueled by a boundless imagination and carefully orchestrated musical architecture. A work that bears witness to the richness of a self-taught artistic journey.
