Each piece by the Chinese-Canadian choreographer Wen Wei Wang is marked by a passionate style that marries a spirited physical presence with musicality and a poetic attention to movement and emotion, and this new work is no exception. Making delicate use of the alchemy created by the dancers, he evokes the complexity of human relations, the struggle to exist both individually and as part of the community. How is it possible to fully express one’s personality while coping with the complex games of power and domination, with imposed constraints and codes? This fascinating dance piece is a subtle fusion full of meticulous gesture, precision of performance and the unique sensitivity of this inspiring artist.
