With Me So You So Me, David Raymond and Tiffany Tregarthen form a startling duo imbued with a palpable complicity. The two Out Innerspace dancers deliver a highly original performance characterized by absurdist, deadpan humour, as though lifted directly from a surrealist Japanese manga. Relations within a couple and the gaze of the other as a distorting mirror of oneself are two themes pursued in a piece peppered with visual surprises. The theatrical, pantomime-like movement is the result of diverse, reworked influences that are reinterpreted in order to create an extraordinary world. The soundtrack by the Japanese percussionist Asa Chang is a reflection of the choreography, an unclassifiable mélange of Oriental classicism and electro sounds tinged with jazz. The lighting design by James Proudfoot is outstanding, and is a key component element of a piece that is a symbiosis between movement, music, lighting and theatricality.
