On the Matter of Flowers
A choreographic journey for two virtuoso performers who skillfully blend four different dance approaches into a single fused stage presentation.
Daphnée Laurendeau and Danny Morissette, a couple in life and onstage, meet the challenge of giving physical form to the imaginations and visions of four creative minds that are quite different yet complementary. They appropriate and embody the raw, rigorous and visceral creative energy of Andrea Peña, the sensitive, intimate and effervescent style of Christophe Garcia, the physical, organic and urban intensity of Ismaël Mouaraki, and the poetic, fantastical signature of Dominique Porte. The music by Laurier Rajotte creates a powerful through line, a sort of sound dramaturgy for this ode to a love of dance in a piece that explores intimacy, human contact and touch, taboo subjects in these troubled and troubling times.
An initiative of Agence Mickaël Spinnhirny, this project was the result of a questioning. In a time of pandemic, how does one construct a positive, lucid stage proposal like a bouquet of flowers? The answer was to create a collective work bringing together Andrea Peña, Christophe Garcia, Dominique Porte and Ismaël Mouaraki, as well as the couple consisting of Daphnée Laurendeau and Danny Morissette. These dance creators are similar in their physical approach to dance and in their excellent choreography, yet each expresses those similarities in unique fashion. Given the current context, they created the piece remotely via video conference, a situation that became an unexpected, atypical and stimulating opportunity. La question des fleurs has already toured locally, and was presented in 22 cities and towns all across Quebec.
