“Ding Dong! Time to marry”. With Merry Age, Central African native and young choreographer Ghislaine Doté addresses the subject of marriage in the form of an energetic contemporary musical comedy. A surprising subject at a time when marriage is in decline in the Western world, Ghislaine Doté chooses to depict this celebration of the union between two people, evoking the passion, the splendour and the innocence of love. She upsets the conventions of contemporary dance and bends the norms of musical comedy. Abstraction and narration coexist. Song and dance embrace. Six performers bring to life singular variations on the theme of the couple in this two-act piece that travels from enchantment to disillusion right up to the cruel necessity of compromise. Here is the grandeur and decadence of this human adventure.
This piece is presented as part of the project Ascendances where, all through the Black History Month, six organizations – Agora de la danse, Circuit-Est, le Mai, le Studio 303, Tangente and Nyata-Nyata – will celebrate contemporary creation from artists of the African Diaspora
