loveloss

Renowned for its special gift for performance, the Toronto company Dancemakers is returning to Agora de la danse with loveloss. Choreographer Michael Trent presents a disconcerting piece whose theme is the loss of a loved one. The sudden and irrevocable end to a love affair makes us vulnerable, obliging us to remain in motion so as not to become paralyzed by sadness. The five dancers establish a complicity with the audience (which is seated around the performance space), as they venture through the turbulence of a jagged emotional landscape. The silence onstage is punctuated by sounds made by the dancers themselves in conjunction with the musical environment created by the composer Christopher Willes. Visually majestic, this captivating piece relies on substantial improvisation and is a delight for the spectator.
