Florilège

This year Margie Gillis is celebrating the 40th anniversary of an exceptional career as a choreographer and soloist. An exquisite gift to the audience, Florilège is a journey through time that provides a brief overview of some of her most emblematic works: Waltzing Matilda (1978); Broken English (1980); Little Animal (1986);  Bloom (1989); Voyage (1997). Without shying away from the raw or indeed at times primitive and instinctive tenor that characterizes these dance poems, here Margie presents a new interpretation of her work, enriched by the veneer of maturity that comes with age and the experience of the dancing body, and in perfect cohesion with the spirit of theatricality that is part and parcel of her dance. Her unique, unconventional style has acquired a strong following, and her rigorous research and magnetic stage presence have inspired generations of artists. Her unconditional love for and perfect mastery of the poetry of movement are compelling, making Margie Gillis a veritable icon of our rich dance heritage.
